Standing in the clearing, just beyond the barn
Deep snows of winter, dawning sun was warm
The herd of horses saw us, as we reached the gate
My Auntie had a treat for them, they loped a speedy gait
She walked up to a little Bay, She put the halter on
Led him back through the gate, he glistened in the dawn
She smiled as she got to me, said this ones for you
You and he will be great friends, his heart is very true
I stood and held his lead rope, I looked into his face
He nuzzled me and whinnied soft, to say, "hop on lets race"
We put the saddle on him, I climbed up to ride
Across the snowy meadow we seemed to simply glide
Every turn was crisp and sharp every step was sure
We raced around that meadow, everything a blur
I rode back to Auntie, saw tear drops near her eyes
I leaned down and hugged him, my tenth Birthday Surprise
I named him "Peanut Butter" just like my favorite treat
He and I became great friends, with Love that can't be beat
Of all my life long treasures, God gave me for his plan
No other gift has been more great, My Horse, from Auntie Ann
I was 10 years old, the year was 1965 and we went to Seely Lake, Montana
to visit and celebrate Christmas. This was my surprise.
Peanut butter looked like the bay in the center, not peanut butter colored but my favorite food and my favorite horse.
