 Mermaid lie

Written when i was 13

Mermaids i believed were real
Just costumes that are fake
Making me ever believe i could be a mermaid
Hollywood getting my hopes up
When the whole time it was fake
I'd bathe in salt
Bathe in a freezing salted whirlpool
Ask the life guard to turn on the wave machine
When i'd dash for salt in my locker
I'd wait and wait to turn into a mermaid
I just accepted i wouldn't
I didn't know i couldn't
