31st December bringing on new year,
Party poppers and balloons surrounded by beer,
Dresses and sparkles catching the surrounding light,
Got a strong feeling this next year's gunna be alright.
Get home early in the morning with an aching head,
Swallow two paracetamols and climb my way up to bed,
Head hits the pillow and I'm out like a shot,
All previous celebrations are soon forgot.
Wake up the next day life is back to before,
1st day of the new year and bills fall through the front door,
Receive a text message on my mobile phone,
The news breaks me like a breadstick; like a dog chewing a bone.
Someone I knew of and really liked has died,
It hits me like a bolt tearing out my insides,
A lovely man I can't believe he is gone,
So suddenly and quickly I hope he wasnt alone.
Just about come to terms with what I've heard,
Then get another phone call this is absurd,
Someone else I am fond of and got on with really well,
Has passed away from Cancer; is this earth or is it hell?
Two funerals to go to I thought I'd had enough last year,
Wanted to put that behind me but it still remains so near,
Dig out my black clothes hidden behind all the brights,
The new year feeling has gone; its back to cold nights.
Death is always near you; dont no when it will appear,
Doesnt matter if its Christmas, easter or new year,
When it's your time to go you have to say goodbye,
So whilst you are here have a jolly old time.
Dance like no one is watching; even if you can see them afar
You only get one chance to be who you are,
If you have a passion and dreams to see through,
Go for it with everything; live life for you
In memory of Dave Shaw and Penny Black. 2 ppl who will be sadly missed by all xx
