Poetry For Everyday People

One Of One

Take away
the misconceptions
and look at me new,
I am not
one of many,

I am one
of one,

doing all I can
to be the best man
I can, trying
to make sense
of the senseless,
the burning
within me of which
the sun was born,

it's not so much
your apple
that brought me
here nor the need
to touch you
love you
enter you
as much is it is
a part of a journey
that twirls around
your being
and evolves
within your soul,

I am a man
one of one
not one like
the other,

I have
learned respect
early on, telling
the truth for lack
of a better answer,
and I have written
of integrity as my
name was being slandered
by fake men
destroying everything
real and beautiful,

I am not
never was
never will
be that man
with evil
heart and a serpents
tongue, power for me
is the ability to make
some one believe, saving
some one from pain,

thumps up and fist
in the air,

I am a peasant king
gypsy saint warrior,
trapped in a daily pop quiz,

relying on
soul instincts
and the study
of the one's
that came before me.
