TO CARL RAIN

He commented I surround myself
With pain twenty-four seven
He doesn't understand my health
The way it leaves me longing to heaven

Physically at T11-12, L2-3, and L4-5 it's bulging
At L3-4 the disc jelly's coming out
So my pain I am divulging
In poetry where somethings shout

God, I hurt, my pain's a ten
I wish that I was dead
Show me the way I pray, Amen!
Remove the suffering from back to head

Because when I get up I can't take it
The pain I feel inside
What's up? I can't fake it
Somewhere this pain will ride

As though a cold black stallion in my poetry
Forging on fire, pushing up behind
Running through thick forest
Pushing on for the comfort in life to find

Finding it with a doctor's care
Finding it in sleep and writing
Finding it by being aware
It's a chronic pain I'm fighting

My friends or lovers can't take it away
My job or dogs can make it worse
It's not a fake game that I play
Or a staged play rehearsed

It's a signal to my brain
It comes up from my back
It's course drives me insane
When it's inflammation will attack

To you, might be boring
That I write about
My pain that is pouring
Well, I'll let it out

In this place
At this time
Where pain will be replaced
By my heartune rhyme...

...Where there's a voice
You can hear it or not
There I have a choice
Here in rhymes the pain is caught

Up for awhile
Until my medicine takes effect
Up comes a smile
Because I have to protect

That pain is real
I have to function
10,000 tons of steel
Stop this train at the junction

Right here
Right now
My pain will clear
Somehow

Listen to me Carl Rain
To a disabled nurse still nursing
I have ways to control my pain
As I write about it cursing.
