Poetry For Everyday People

The Pefectly Sane Insane

I light
an average
of ten candles
every night
mostly tea lights
in colorful
glass lanterns
a few fragrant ones
but at least twice
a week I light about
fifty, inside and out,

we drink wine
sit in the front room
by the fire place and
play old records, jazz,
blues, flamenco, then we
move to the garden, drink
more wine, say hello to
Bob Marley, then we move
to the living room watch
a little TV, all with candles
dancing in amazing rhythms,
smells,

it's a celebration
of love and living,
a celebration of chance,
it's a ritual of healing
and birth of inspiration,
I walk around and light
these candles like
pouring a friend
a drink, the lanterns
get happy and alive,
the fragrance quietly
releases magic and the
wind carries to all
who will feel,

in a way I don't
want a night to go
by uncelebrated or
appreciated, it's
life, it's air,
it's feeling
what makes you
feel good, what
gets you through,

it's understanding
the moment

you know life's
good when you can
drink wine, light
candles, love and
say hello to Bob.
