 Poems for Lovers and Sinners

Hell on Earth!

The stench in the carriage was indescribable
Mile after mile people cried and asked "Why"
I broke off a piece of ice that hung down and sucked on it
We didn't know where we were going, no one did, it was so cold...

At the side of the track we saw some children
They were making strange gestures at us as we passed them!
We all had one thing in common I noticed...
We were all wearing armbands with yellow stars on them

As the train jerked to an halt
The doors were open...Hell drifted in I could smell it
The old and infirm were led away -
Line in line to the showers of Death -

I was one of the lucky ones
Put to work in this Hell hole
Where hunger was but a morsel, a crumb
But the willingness to survive was Great -
