Poetry For Everyday People
Dear J I hope You're At Peace
A rush of jasmine wind
rushes towards her
through her open
toed heels up her
ankles climbing her
vines of angels
on an ordinary day
and she floats
in the possibilities
the sun shines on her
yet it's not hot
just a warm hug
from a far away
misunderstood friend
she takes a drag
blows smoke not looking
back
new day's ahead
she's been walking
all night angry
sad drunk sober
confused
behind her was
a life she could
no longer live
she was walking
to her friends house
a million miles away
she would be safe there
all she left behind would
be better off she thought
done crying done listening
to lies done pretending
she takes her heels off
blowing smoke in the wind
yet somehow all she smelled
was jasmine as cars drove by
on their way to work
people stood at bus stops
going through the motions
the routines kids walking
to schools no more phone
calls no more opinions
she was on her way
to a new beginning
as angels lifted her.
rushes towards her
through her open
toed heels up her
ankles climbing her
vines of angels
on an ordinary day
and she floats
in the possibilities
the sun shines on her
yet it's not hot
just a warm hug
from a far away
misunderstood friend
she takes a drag
blows smoke not looking
back
new day's ahead
she's been walking
all night angry
sad drunk sober
confused
behind her was
a life she could
no longer live
she was walking
to her friends house
a million miles away
she would be safe there
all she left behind would
be better off she thought
done crying done listening
to lies done pretending
she takes her heels off
blowing smoke in the wind
yet somehow all she smelled
was jasmine as cars drove by
on their way to work

going through the motions
the routines kids walking
to schools no more phone
calls no more opinions
she was on her way
to a new beginning
as angels lifted her.
