When the moon rises full and bright
over the Louisiana bayou
vile,insidious creatures slowly crawl
from the primordial slime of the dark waters
to search for the rich, warm human blood they crave.
Their eerie, blood curdling howls of hunger
permeate the still landscape of the night.
Causing even the strongest, bravest of men to cower
and quake in mortal, gut wrenching fear.
Out of the ethereal mist they come crawling,
with the hollow eyed skulls of past victims,
clutched greedily in their bony hands.
The shattered bones of past meals hang from their
gaping toothy mouths an eerie testament
to their evil success.
With malicious, glowing yellow eyes they search
the misty bayous in hopes of satisfying their blood
lust one more time before the morning sun begins to rise.
They glide silently as ghosts upon the wind
through the sleeping town,
peeking into windows til the perfect victim is found.
With an unnatural quickness they strike a telling blow,
and greedily gorge their aching stomachs upon the blood
of the innocent til they slake their unholy, demonic thirst.
Then evaporate back into the swamps from which they came,
to await the coming of the next full moon.
