Poetry For Everyday People

Nature's Lessons

Trees sacrifice
their leaves
in the fall
to take on
winter
bare

it's a form
of conquering
training
growing

taking time on
with grace
elegance
strength

I love trees
the most
in the winter

and I think
of all the people
ashamed of their looks
their exteriors

need to lose weight
hate my body
don't dare to go out
without make-up on
don't dare to go
to the beach

we have eyes
that see
this miracle in progress

hands, arms, legs, feet,
lips, ears, brains, hearts,

we have this amazing
body
this sophisticated
machine with limitless
potential

yet somehow
we're worried
about our nose
being too big
lips too thin
stomach too fat
breasts too small
make-up make-up

trees shed their leaves
and winter is when
they are
most beautiful

bare.
