The Warmth
You warmed my heart last night
And it wasn't what you said, it was the way you said it
It wasn't even the way you look
Although your beauty alone could melt a billion hearts
It was the look in your eyes
The things I sensed you wanted to tell me but didn't say
If only I could see you more often
But you have your friends and I have mine
And there is but a tenuous grasp between our circles
Part of me says I don't know you that well
And you don't know me that well
All logic would say I am dream
But meeting you just three times
Seems like knowing you three years or more
And I was a coward! The spirits did not make me any bolder
Though my heart was stirred when you exchanged seats to sit closer
And though the spirits did give me the courage to amuse you
With humorous dialogue and witty (or pseudo-witty) repartee
You were but a listener and a muse
And I was but a fool
But I long to see you again
And redeem myself
And remember to ask for your number
And it wasn't what you said, it was the way you said it
It wasn't even the way you look
Although your beauty alone could melt a billion hearts
It was the look in your eyes
The things I sensed you wanted to tell me but didn't say
If only I could see you more often
But you have your friends and I have mine
And there is but a tenuous grasp between our circles
Part of me says I don't know you that well
And you don't know me that well
