Poetry For Everyday People

Waiting

Is a time machine,

thirty seconds
can feel like
a life time,
a year can seem
like forever,

unmeasurable
what happens
within us
as we wait,

wait for the good,
the bad,
wait for what's
desperately needed,
for that moment
that will change
our lives forever,
a check,
a letter,
a phone call,
wait for love,
a liver,
a kidney,
a heart,
wait for proof,
to be saved,
to be discovered,
to be forgotten,
for a cure,

wait to be recognized
beyond our invisible loneliness,
beyond our shyness,
as our passion simmers
in hell,

it's agony waiting
starring at
our ceilings
nervous about
tomorrow,
stomach turning
heart bumping
cold sweat
waiting, waiting,

to face
the truth,
to tell
the truth,
to hear
the test results,

waiting to go back
to the hospital
the doctor

waiting to get out,
waiting to go in,

waitings the devil's
happy hour
as we patiently drink,

mornings die everyday.
