I Can Never ForgetAll of these years have slipped slowly away Yet still in a single instant of time~ I will hear an old song play And again I could cry for father divine~ My own most loving and caring Father , My dad , My best friend~ How he loved and adored us kids so much And he worshiped my mother no end~ How I believe she never had feeling In her body nor in her soul~ They both married for unknown reasons Away back in the now days of old~ He adored my mother just no end Married after my eldest sisters birth~ And once she had my father she just never wanted One man in her life but many of lesser worth~ Nothing in life fazed my mother A woman who simply did not care~ Who she hurt as she went from day to day All things in her life they were fair~ She'd leave ever so many times without warning Only to come back home when she was done~ And her home was always perfect and waiting After she sowed all her seeds and had fun~ My father he worked hard all of his life And all the eldest they then moved away~ Leaving at home then the two youngest To cop all of the worst come what may~ My father was never a weak man in any way He was as fit as he was strong~ But he knew it's true who was to blame Though many unknowing blamed him all along~ Non were ever game to say things to his face However he always knew~ What the whole town thought of it all Though several were no better than her it's true~ She took away all of the goodness That a mother installs in a home~ And always at a minutes notice She'd leave all who adored her alone~ My father how dearly he adored her In reality to the moment he died~ And nothing in life fazed my mother I cannot remember a time that she cried~ My father he stood tall in the whole mess How the town folk they'd all talk away~ All those that did all know my mother And those that wished that they had on the day~ He loved us simply no end all of his life She never loved any at all~ Exempt of the feeling within her soul My mother lived just to have a ball~ My dad lost count of her lovers Non of them were the soil on his shoes~ She lived a life mostly of an out there somewhere wife So many other women's husband they formed the cues~ She had more talents in life than ever Good at all she ever took on~ How the town only wished they could match her As she lived a life high and in song~ A woman of several personalities Ability that all wished they had~ But the one thing it's true that she could not do Love another and for sure my Dad~ she spent life living her life so Regardless of anyone or anything~ How she played the church organ so beautifully And yes this woman could also sing~ She was a gardener at home in her spare time Like many in town wished they could do~ She was the whole towns best ever dress maker Generations wore her dresses as they all grew~ But exempt of a loving feeling She'd help strangers but never her own~ How as a child we needed a mother So so very often she simply was not at home~ Terrence Michael Sutton copyright 2008 Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
