Musings by The Poet Loriet
I Dream About You
God help me.
I dream about you.
I know good girls shouldn't,
but tell that to my heart.
I want you in my bed
covering me with warm flesh,
whispering, "I love you,"
into my ear as a shiver
travels the length of me.
I want our feet caressing,
our legs entwined.
I want to leave my imprint on you
like the sea that carves rivets
in the golden sand,
deposits jeweled kisses
before she turns her back to him
in favor of calm slumber.
I want to feed you buttered muffins
in the morning light, my sugar
melting upon your tongue.
I want my love to be your blanket
that you can tuck around you
when you're away from me and
in need of comfort.
I want a lot of things,
but you can't stay.
You don't belong to me.
Still, when I close my eyes,
I can hear your voice whisper,
"I love you,"
and my heart won't listen
to the word "no."
God help me.
I dream about you.
