My friend Jim was the fittest boy in school
Situps, pushups--pullups too a fitness tool
Jim broke all the records watching him was kool
His father died in the war when he was just a boy
His mother raised three kids but Jim was her joy
At fourteen Jim and I went to the bowling alley set pins
It wasn't always automatic setting and where this part ends
He never dropped a pin even helped me a real friend
At sixteen, lied his age, logging camp a choker
Lumbermen know at his age surviving he was no poker
But this is about fitness tests held in high school
He started doing situps one period and stopped at two
Some of us laughed no one could break his record what a fool
His answer, "Yeah, but it got me out of math class unlike you."
