WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO IT

He will be there if I am sick
He puts up with my whining
It might take him awhile to fix it
Usually gets it right the first time

Understands my frustrations
Doesn't take it personally
When foul mouth madness invades
His range of hearing

Has the patience of a saint
Awaiting on a lady to finish whatever
As he knows she wants perfection
In an imperfect world

Has learned to love what I love
Will share his lot with me
There is peace for me in him being alone
Just as though I am in our separate houses

Six blocks away is better than 20 miles
If I walked there I can go inside
Because it's okay to call him husband
And sometimes he calls me wife

When it comes down to it
He's the first on my list of things to do
The way it is and will be daily
Nice to other women

Nicer to me the girl in his life
Babies to each other
If I cry it's from his power over my worry
That goes away bonding with him

He is a great man
Full of the strength men have
Knows how to laugh when smiles
Are far and few between from me

I thank God for him everyday
Praying for his good health
To come hold me again in his warm arms
I can hear the heart that beats faster

Perhaps excited to have
A lover to call his own
After years of being discouraged
By the work involved with women

So different from me
With sports, friendliness, pride
That surface cool people enjoy
Control in chaos

Factually intelligent
Routine until the job's done
Steady as a rock
When it comes down to it.
