There was a time once in my youth
I was sure that I was invincible
Being an American I always fought
and won for righteousness
Isn't that what all the books
and all the storied said?
Fought for freedom the English dread
Growing up World War Two I was breed
The evil menace in the world red
But in Viet Nam they said I was wrong
Even in a draw I did not belong
Now they are saying I don't belong in Iraq
Yet there are no skills in humanity this soldier lacks
Today I return home a flag upon my chest
All I have done is serve my country did my best
Bless the American soldier for on this day he does rest
