Remembering you Grandma on this day
It's been 38 years since you passed away
I was just 14 years old at the time
But the memories of you are fresh in my mind
I remember you always had an apron on
It seemed you were in the kitchen from dusk til dawn
I still remember the unique smell of your house
The old wood burning stove I miss so much now
I remember a time I lived with my Dad's sister
I rode the school bus to your house going against her
You was so happy to see me much to my delight
You called my Aunt to see if I could spend the night
She first gave rebuddle and said I didn't have a clean dress
But you my Grandma was an awesome seamstress
After your conversation she finally agreed
Then you took an old dress and altered it to fit me
Grandma I so admire the wisdom that you had
Now as I grow older I long for it bad
You raised all your kids and my cousin Danny
I guess this made you an authority on plenty
I sure do miss all the years without you
The warmth of your smile and big hugs too
You only stayed here six months after Papa went home
I know without him you must have felt so alone
You know it really was rare to see you apart
You truly was the beat of each others heart
Even with all the family gathering at your place
You grieved and longed to see Grandpa's face
I know you are happy with Grandpa in heaven
Just wanted you to know you were one in a million
Many years have passed but fond memories remain
For my precious Grandma our loss was heavens'gain
Say "Hello" to Papa and Mama as I know you both can see
The love of flowers you both have passed down to me
I love you Grandma and you really were the best
Once again thank-you for your love and the beautiful dress
Hugs and Love Until ...we meet again
Your Granddaughter as my Papa called me
"silkhead or cottontop" :-)
