A Tale With A TwistHe had thought about what he'd like to do So he set out to find the job he'd sought~ Always wanted to live and work in the country And he had a good working report~ He eventually applied for an outback job GROOM is what it said in the add~ Loving horses he rang and secured the job It was to be the very job he wanted bad~ A GROOM WANTED is what the add it said Must be available for long term~ Must be able to give it all he had to give With an ability if needed to learn~ They told him to come to them a week earlier So they can show him the ropes~ Able to take on another mans job it said A thinker not a position for dopes~ He packed all of his working gear And some nice things he loved the most~ And could not wait to get there Some place called The Hitching Post~ He spent a day with his mates bragging About what he was about to do~ The job I've always wanted He told them it is true~ He arrived in the town of this place And like told gave them a ring~ They told him to wait right where he was They'd be right there to come see him~ Before we go out to the job they said We are going over to the pub called the Mary May~ And there we'll have a few drinks young mate You'll feel more at home that way~ They got him ever so drunk over time Told him he was just the one the boss was looking for~ And Drunk as anyone could possibly be They then rushed him out of the door~ Put him into an old car And off they flew down the road and all~ Out of town a good few miles And pulled up outside a outback country hall~ Still drunk they then rushed him into the hall And once there and then inside~ They rushed him up to a man in a shawl Looking at him all seemed so satisfied~ Gave him another drink there and then~ And the next thing that he knew~ He woke up next morning in a shanty Wondering what was he about to do~ He was a groom and that's for sure But now there laying by his side~ Was the ugliest woman he'd ever seen His already pregnant bride~ Terrence Michael Sutton Copyright 2008 Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
