returning to st anns

i returned to st Ann's today
      the hall was painted white
there were skeletons in the cupboards
and all the lights were bright

      the psychiatrist was turning cartwheels
and the staff were on the phone
      the patients were all seasick
      and wanted to go home

there were forks upon the tables and whiskey in a jar
      the clock was striking thirteen
and the food was all for sale

      the squirrels were running riot
there was music in the halls
      the toilets were all exits
      and the entrances were barred

the trust had all gone bankrupt
and there were camels in the yard
the cars were all parked vacant
and the staff were all adrift

      the sandbanks was all frozen
      and studland was a mess
and a doctor was asking everyone
      have you seen my vest

the dope was on the table
and the drugs were sealed up tight
then a figure who looked like Jesus
      asked
would you like a room for the night
