Out in our garden where we used to sit
When days were warm and we were fit,
Someone else now sits there enjoying bliss
A mother possum and family, I counted six...
Six little darlings, just starting to grow
To young yet for their fear to show,
Trust in Mom is what they only know
Not very far from her will they ever go...
So much like our children of long ago
Helping us plant flowers all in row,
Running and romping like bunnies on the go
Finally settling down with their own now in tow...
The garden is still here after many long years
Different inhabitants seem to bring it cheers,
Rows of flowers still bloom yearly in weather fine
All of this beauty because you once were mine.
So I'll sit in our garden and reminisce
With a family of possums living in bliss,
I feel your presence although you are now long gone
As to the possums I sing our old favorite garden song...
