Contemporary poetry by Dan Donlan

WE FOOLED THEM AGAIN

When I joined the Air force this young Airman feared flying
I had this thing in my youth about living and dying
First time I flew I by the stewardess given Tomato Juice
From that day on each flight I take the drink of choice
When I landed at the airport I said, "We fooled them again"
I say the same thing every time I land my friend
My family by genes has never had a real long life span
So two operations in the sixties not much time for me
But I lived a good life have a nice family that is my pride
Yet fear of dying young was always there at my side
So today is my birthday I reached the age of longevity
I look at the calender and I am now the age of seventy
We fooled them again don't you agree?
