Long awaited royalty checks arrived

Four copies sold---Four dollars three cents
Eighteen dollars for Author signing sign
Six dollars for balloons but why whine
At cost seven more sold at signings
Oh one guy bought fifty at authors cost
Oh, right--that was me another lost
But I is a poet is I not
For I can buy a book for forty nine dollars
And it might be cheaper that way to say I is a poet.
Do I sound depressed out of sorts
I didn't buy a hundred books and take it in the shorts.
I should have kept my dream of playing baseball
no writing dream of fame in other assorted sports
All is not lost---I checked my e-mail
I am a member of the International Poet Society
And all it will cost is $69 to be a basic member
I am training my singing voice to go on the American Idol show
I'll read a couple of my poems and tell Simon where to go
