How I'd walk on down the station
An old steam train was in~
I'd walk up to the engine
And wear such an excited grin~
Then the steam it would come blowing
And then one could hardly at all see~
Anything at all for steam
And most of all little me~
All of a sudden that big whistle
Such a then deafening sound~
After that a loudest .. All aboard
To all waiting and standing around~
The carriages would then give an almighty jerk
And then all on it that was going~
Onto those wonderful old steam trains
Then came all the puffing and the blowing~
Up the track then ever slowly
And picking up some speed then~
How I loved those steam trains
that i loved and knew back when~
Closed that window mum would scream
As cinders got into ones eyes~
And I'd be hanging out and looking about
Smelling the coal and sighing sighs~
Rocking and shaking off we'd go
A thrill to a lad back then~
Those wonderful old steam trains
Love to ride them once ag'en~
