YESTERDAY'S EASTER

Yesterday's Easter
When our children were small Easter was one of the best times of all
Winter had come to an end and spring was just in it's begin
Chocolate bunnies, marshmallow chicks, a stuffed toy and small
candied eggs were left in a basket by their beds
Happy excitement for when they awoke
We then dressed and got ready for church
Happy children dressed in Sunday's best
Like little cherubs they sat in the pew
Awaiting the long day ahead
we worshiped our Lord on Easter Day
After lunch came a time for frolicking outside
Cousins, aunts and uncles and friends did arrive
Baskets of colorful eggs dyed the day before
were hidden in the bushes and grass outside the kitchen door
They were hid with care so the little ones would have no trouble
finding their share
A prize was given for the one that found the most
Then a time of fun on the swing set - Oh - they would put on a show
Each child trying to out shine the rest
Each parent thinking their children were the best
Grownups with salt and pepper in hand ate the colored eggs
and laughed at the kids childish games
Night would come and egg hunting over
with their pajamas on and ready for bed
The Easter story was read - so we would not forget
what Easter was all about
How Jesus came and lived a sinless life and for us He willingly did die
But on that Sunday morn He was alive
That is why we have Easter to celebrate His Resurrection
from death He did rise
We kissed their shining hair and said a prayer that
God would keep them as they sleep and guide them always everywhere

He is not here: for He is risen, as He said.
Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
