Diplomacy

He said he was an alien
And I suppose I thought that true
For he looked like a fish
And his skin was scarlet blue

He said he came from Birmingham
And I said that's not far
And he agreed and said
Just the next but one star

But he danced like angel
Swaying from side to side
And he captured my heart
During the Palais Glide

His Gay Gordon was exquisite
It was so hard to tell
He had that extra leg
He moved them all so well

The Quickstep and the Fox Trot
And then he had to go
The breathing tank on his back
Being running rather low

He kissed my hand with panache
Murmured a fond goodbye
And the next thing I knew
He was soaring through the sky

Now all I have is my memories
Of when I had the chance
To hold an extra terrestrial
At my annual village hall dance

He said he was an alien
And I suppose I thought that true
For he looked like a fish
And his skin was scarlet blue
