Ethereal Moments The Poetry of Donavon Scott Vinson
Dangers of the Jungle
Burning obsidian eyes peer restlessly
into the steamy night from behind
the lush, deep green of the underbrush.
She stares intently upon the shimmering
cool blue waters of the winding stream.
Silently she sniffs the humid air,
paws agitatedly at the rancid earth,
as she patiently searches for the scent
of the comely wildebeest.
A long pink tongue caresses sharp dagger-like
teeth in anticipation of the arrival of tonight's
delicious meal of raw flesh and fresh, warm blood.
Quietly she stretches long limber hind legs as
the unassuming wildebeest makes its way to the
gleaming cool blue waters of the stream.
As he lowers his heavy head to drink,
she pounces like a bolt of lightning with
a throaty growl, ripping at his exposed throat with
razor sharp claws and teeth.
'Til he lies in a bloody heap upon the muddy shores of the
glistening blue waters of the meandering stream,
another sweet victory for the powerful cheetah.
