When I was just a youngster
My mother sat me down
And told me of a baby born
In a tiny, middle east town
She told of how the shepherds sang
And three wise men bowed their knee
In a stable next to a manger
Carved from a rugged tree
When I was somewhat older
My mother sat me down
And told me of a carpenter
In a busy middle east town
She told of how he lived and worked
In a place called Galilee
In a dusty shop He designed a chair
Carved from a rugged tree
When I'd almost grown to womanhood
My mother sat me down
And told me of a Savior slain
In a troubled middle east town
She told of how He bled and died
On a hill called Calvary
Hung with three nails on a cruel Cross
Carved from a rugged tree
Lovingly in the Lord,
