Occasion Royal

(alternative Earth saga)

Progress after progress
Maybe very soon at this rate
All those parts of Europe
Will compose one united state

The massed bands were playing
A selection of martial airs
Excitement buzzed and rushed
In the crowds assembled there.
The steam car hissed and puffed
Standing reassuringly steady
Waiting for the semaphore arms
To signal all was fine and ready

King William in his state car
His family by his side
The mouth loomed ahead
High and deep and wide
Loud cheers and stirring music
The historic journey begun
Tribute to the structure and
The ingenuity of modern man

Driving under the channel
That huge underwater street
Leading to the land of France
Where our King would meet
The King and Queen of France
And by that very act
Add another dimension to
That Continental Peace Pact

A Europe finally united
Joined under the sea
Soon the borders to be lifted
To make our entry free
A fraternal royal greeting
And a shaking of the hands
To the cheering of the people
And the playing of the bands

Progress after progress
Maybe very soon at this rate
All those parts of Europe
Will compose one united state
