Through The Eyes Of A Poet...

The Mind Of A Child…

The fluffy whit rabbit was hopping around,
When he spied from behind a tree,
A little girl, with flowing hair,
He said; ‘Are you looking for me?'
‘Oh,' the startled girl replied,
As she stepped out into view,
‘Did you speak?  ‘Yes,' he replied,
‘I Spoke directly to you!'

Gingerly she stepped forward,
Looked at the rabbit and blinked,
‘I got a fright,' she said…
‘It's ok,' said the rabbit, and winked!
‘Have you a name, can you speak?' She asked,
The rabbit laughed with glee,
‘I'm a magic rabbit, my name is Robbie,
And my age is only three!'

‘Golly,' she replied, ‘I can scarce believe,
That you are here with me?'
‘I should go home, my mum will shout,
She's cooking me my tea!'
‘Well go!' Shouted Robbie, I don't care!'
‘I'll just sit on my own,'
But he looked so sad and all forlorn,
So she stayed and never went home!

‘What's your name?' asked Rabbit,
‘I'm Sue,' she said, ‘and I'm eight!'
She sat on the grass, next to her ‘friend' and said;
‘I mustn't be home too late!'
For hours on end they giggled and played,
It was a joy to see,
She'd never mixed, and had no friends,
And now she was whooping with glee!

‘Do you want to meet my friends?  ‘He asked,
‘Oh yes, please,' said Sue,
‘Well come along, before its dark,
I've got lots to show to you!'
So off they went, side by side,
And Sue was so excited,
‘You'll like my friends, they're very nice,'
In fact, you'll be delighted!'

Now Sue just loved this rabbit,
And wasn't afraid of him,
They came to a stop, and saw a frog,
And Robbie said, ‘This is Tim!'
‘Hello,' croaked Tim, ‘How do you do!'
Sue jumped back in alarm,
‘It's ok, I don't bite,' you wont come to harm!'

Sue knelt down to look closer,
And the frog looked into her eyes,
‘Goodness, you're big!' He told her,
‘You're really quite a size!'
‘I'm 4ft 3in!' she boldly said,
‘And yes, I'm big for my age!'
The frog was amused with her temper
Her eyes were full of rage,

‘I'm sorry,' croaked Tim, ‘Forgive me,
It's just that I'm so small,'
‘And from down here, every things big,
And everyone looks so tall!'
‘Can I pick you up, can I hold you?
Sue said, ‘its gentle I' will be,'
‘Only I've never held a frog before,
And it will mean so much to me!'

‘Very well,' replied Tim,
But only for a short time,'
‘I'll need to go in the water quite soon,
Or I won't be feeling fine!
‘Gosh!'  Exclaimed Sue, ‘This is great fun,
Animals that can talk to me!
‘I think I'm dreaming, thought I know I'm not,
Cos I'm here, and I can see!'

After a while, Robbie told Sue…
'I want you to come over here!'
The little girl followed unafraid,
Until she met a talking deer!
‘Hello little girl, what's your name?'
‘It's Sue,' she replied in awe,
‘My name is red, why are you here?'
She said, ‘Robbie's giving me a tour.

‘He's showing me around to all his friends,
Here in this magic wood!'
‘Where all of the animals speak,
Then suddenly she froze where she stood.
A thunderous noise in the distance,
A bellow shook her with dread,
She jumped with a start, held onto her heart,
And then she sat upright…in bed!

‘Oh golly,' said Sue with relief,
Looking around in the darkened room,
Talking animals didn't exist; she shook,
As she looked at the moon!
The light showed up her chair,
Which stood at the side of her bed!
On it there was…a ball of ‘fluff!'
She blinked and turned her head.

‘Dear me,' she whispered to herself,
‘Was it a dream or was it true?
She wasn't sure, she didn't know,
And wondered what she should do?
As she stepped out of bed to the window,
She pulled the lace away from the glass,
Then she saw a rabbit he winked and waved!
Before hopping away through the grass!

Sue popped back to bed with a smile on her face;
Wearily she closed her eyes tight,
She knew now for sure that it happened,
Yes, she'd had an exciting night!
She fell asleep all curled up,
As all little girls should be,
And dreamt a dream of a magic wood,
Where she had played so happily!

Back in the magic wood,
The animals chatted on,
All about this lovely child,
With whom they'd all had fun.

The rabbit hopped away towards his friends,
A twinkle in his eye,
Knowing Sue was safe and sound,
‘Goodnight,' he whispered, ‘Goodbye.'
