There She Waited…
She stood on the barren hilltop,
Wind blowing and lashing all around,
She looked for solace every night,
But solace couldn't be found…
There she waited each night,
From years past it was said…
She stood looking across the sea,
Wind and rain lashing at her head!
Time and again people commented,
On her frame of mind…!
For there she stood every single night,
For a ship she couldn't find…
He sailed away to sea,
Many years past,
But there she stood like clockwork,
Her skirts blowing like a ships mast!
Nothing ever deterred her,
There she was each time,
Peering into the vast wide sea,
A lady, strong and fine…
When she was told of the accident,
The village was very sad to hear…
That the ship went down, no survivors,
The reason why still wasn't clear?
But she refused to accept the facts,
So there she stood each night,
Hoping for the return of her husband…
Every star light night…
Many years had passed,
Still she stood, till old and grey
And the whispers behind her back continued,
And so the story's still told today.
They found her on that hilltop,
Cold and stiff and grey…
There she lay with a smile on her face,
The village was shocked that day…!
In all the years of waiting,
Never once did she smile…and its said…
She was always stern, sorrowful and sad,
From the day she was told he was dead.
But there bobbing on the water…!
Was a ships mast tattered and torn,
Gossip say's it was her husband returned,
To take his wife that morn…!
