Holding Sand

No more fighting to see the daylight
nor even lusting for a fight
lacking interest for whoever's out there
content but lonely most every night.
Walls no longer just confine me
they keep away all my daily ills
the door I lock sleeps me safely
safe from life's most pleasant thrills.
For me lust and mayhem share the same bed
love and hate hold each others hand
once in love then damned forever
wisdom fails when holding sand.
There are bright lights that I remember
sad reminders of what filled my heart
but always the sand kept on falling
I could not hold what just fell apart.
So I fight no more to see the daylight
I sleep content within my shell
and as the sand falls through my fingers
I may look happy... but can you tell?
