Earth's crust bursts asunder,
Rocks dance to the sound like thunder,
Belching toxic clouds of darkness
Death cheats even the boldest.
Lava flows ooze onwards to the sea,
Sliding down tubes, consuming trees,
All but the birds were doomed that day,
There was no escape from this catastrophe.
Our own lives reflect like pain,
Tortured by deep struggle within,
The steaming cauldron of desire and emotion,
Hating ourselves for succumbing to evil.
There is life renewing power and hope,
Born out of violence on Mount Calvary,
Christ's scarred hands reach out today,
Come, I did this for you, Come.
