Darken My Quill
If ever I should aggrieve your heart
Within my words,
My spoken art
Darken then! my singing quill
Take my beat, hold it still
Let your tears become my blood
To know your sorrows,
I err my love
Let my days then find me old
As my inks grow solid, cold
Tie my restless hands in bind
No thoughts in flight,
None let me find
Let me sleep til' night is through
Never waken, only unto you
Shower me with all your pain
Let me drown in torrents
Your aching rain
Shield me, cloak me, from the sun
Until my pennance finds me done
Pray you, let me take your woe
Fill me wholly!
Let it be so
Until birds again join you in song
Til' all the world is right, ne'er wrong
If ever I should aggrieve your heart
Within my words,
My spoken art
Darken then! my singing quill
Take my beat, hold it still
