Never Existed At All
Tonight was to be my last night here
Tomorrow the first day
of the rest of our life as one
Tomorrow I was not
supposed to do this alone
but against destiny I can not win
When it is over and I awake
it is his face I am to see
and his strength to lean upon
I sit here tonight
with an emptiness never before known
mounting fear of the months ahead
He vowed his love for eternity
He said I'd never be alone
Yet now I am because of him.
To go this alone
I pray I have the strength
that God sees in me
Why in the hidden depths
of this battered heart
do I long for the old to be you
When will it give up and realize
the man I so dearly loved
Never existed at all...
