For Better or For WorseThis remains a familiar phrase You hear at weddings these days As couples say their marriage vows But has it lost meaning somehow? The divorce rate continues to rise Little children, tears in their eyes Don't understand why parents fight But want everything to be all right You may be without a husband or wife By death or choice, living a single life In all situations, can you truthfully say God, for better or worse, have Your way? Those words are more than wedding vows But about commitment in the here and now Trusting God in good times may seem easy When a crisis comes, are you very uneasy? What I have learned more and more God will lead to what He has in store He is trustworthy in good and bad I will remain in the grip of His hand Close to Him is the safe place to be I am lost when it is all left up to me In the tough times I will persevere My final journey does not end here 2 Corinthians 4:16 (Amplified) Therefore we do not become discouraged (utterly spiritless, exhausted, and wearied out through fear). Though our outer man is [progressively] decaying and wasting away, yet our inner self is being [progressively] renewed day after day. © Carol Salter on 5/5/08 (Revised on 5/11/08) Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
