Today how prices they are rising
More so all of the time~
Will not be long and almost all
Will look back on better days divine~
Getting to where most will not afford
To know again many pleasures knew~
One day up the track not far
We all will feel the pressures too~
Soon old phases will need to return
The thinking of alternative life style~
Self provision in many ways
It worked in war years back a mile~
I remember folks gathering coal
Along the rail road track~
Carting pine cones from forest then
In billy carts as kids right back~
Any wood then was good wood
At the wood heap back a ways~
People growing their own vegetables
Back in those harder days~
Folks made their own clothes
And as well for friends and others~
Fathers helped their neighbors
Along with their sons and brothers~
Home made pies and jams as well
The barta system worked for real~
They even made candles and soap as well
When survival was the deal~
Washing clothes in fired coppers
Hanging them on the longest line~
Lanterns hung then for light
And still all they lived so fine~
Water tanks collecting rain
Swapping this for that~
Lending a hand to who needed it
In those harder times looking back~
Saving money then if at all they could
To be found there was not a lot~
Helping themselves and others too
Dealing with hardship then time plot~
So much many they could do
To save the costs then of all~
Time to think of ways real soon
As the writings on the wall~
