In the dawn of this new day
I watch from upon a rooftop
Observing below…trying to find
Crumbs that someone left behind.
A few wee crumbs or a small seed
Plus water for my drink
Just enough to meet my need
Refresh my mind that I may think.
I spot something on the ground
As I watch here all alone
Something still, that makes no sound
Though has a sparkle all its own.
A golden string is now in view
I fly down thinking what to do
This treasure could help build my nest
A little home, where I can rest.
I build my nest, then hunger more
So I leave to search for bread
My eyes are ready to explore
A place where I might be fed.
A crumb waits where I found the string
A great blessing bestowed to me
Before I eat, I happily sing
Thankful for this offering.
Near to me and well in sight
A bird bath, filled up to the brim
Sunlit water, my heart’s delight
I land quietly on the rim.
If one truly seeks, one shall find
And in God’s love abide
A sparrow’s life can bring to mind
How God is faithful to provide.
