Poetry For Everyday People
Rich
Money sure tires you,
the worry about it,
the pursuit of it,
the need for it,
somebody buying
a new Rolls Royce,
somebody barely
paying their rent,
somebody buying
a third mansion,
somebody trying
to qualify for a loan,
somebody seeing the
best doctors,
somebody can't afford
to see a doctor,
the idea of a big house,
a few acres, black iron
gated fence, all the
garden possibilities,
fountains, is beautifully
romantic, seems a man
can relax there with
his love, his demons,
I love a roof over
my head, money in
my pocket, bills paid,
I can make a meal out
of bread and olives,
a home out of one room,
and it's not so much greed
or the love of material things
that are driving me now,
it's the fact that the
people who have these
things aren't smarter
than me nor are they better
people, in fact, I find most
of them annoying and self
loving to the point of sickness,
I guess what I'm trying
to say is:
we all, can have it,
poor is just a road on
our trip,
and next time when you
see them driving past
you in their brand new
silver Bentley
know that you can have
one too, don't feel it's
beyond your reach,
be thankful for love,
health, family, friends,
but don't feel as if
the rich life isn't
for you,
there is nothing wrong
with material things,
there is nothing wrong
with being in a position
of having things, and
being able to help others,
it's only wrong if
you look down on others,
or think you're better
just because of money,
go get rich, work hard,
why not.
the worry about it,
the pursuit of it,
the need for it,
somebody buying
a new Rolls Royce,
somebody barely
paying their rent,
somebody buying
a third mansion,
somebody trying
