Once In Every Life
Its so hard to know
what is within my battered heart
but one thing is certain
I only miss what was at our start
You were that Knight shining
upon a horse of white
Together... days were filled with sunshine
Separated... Oh how lonely the night
You will never know a greater joy
You will never know a like love
for I gave to you
what was sent from above
Why our paths crossed
Well only He can know
but the openness you saw
I will never again show
Life's gold ring I tried to capture
Yes, I took the chance
But it was not meant
for me to dance this dance
What life lesson I was to learn
Well I'm really not sure
But I do know
what was given to you was pure
Your inability to accept
and to return
I do honestly pray
upon your soul will never burn
I pray you never miss
the love you so abused
I pray you never hear
the words to me you have used
You listened to one
you thought you could trust
but can you not see the happiness
in their loveless marriage they so lust
It is said misery loves company
in this I do believe
Too bad you were not man enough
for your own life to lead
My heart will heal
My life I will reclaim
and find a greater love
Can you even hope for the same
Tonight this chapter
of my life comes to end
I refuse to waste another moment
on one that couldn't be lover or friend
The love I gave to you
You returned with painful strife
The love I had for you
comes but Once In Every Life
