A Rose by any other name..They stood chatting in the car park Blocking everybody's way out; I spoke to them ever so politely For I'm not one to stand and shout. Excuse me please ladies, But I really do need to go, Could you please let me past? One of them said firmly no. This is a private conversation And you can just sit and wait Because you called me a lady And that I really really hate. I'm a woman not a lady. A woman, understand. And then she dismissed me By casual gesture of the hand. I said I'm sorry madam, missus, woman I really didn't mean to offend you But I really really do need to leave Be you human or camel or gnu. You could have cut the silence With a blunted bread knife; I stood a little in fear Of maybe losing my life. She looked me up and down, Unsure what to say, Bade good bye to the other And quickly drove away. I breathed a sigh of relief, God bless the weaker sex, And heaven help the man Who goes and gets one vexed. Vote for this poem
