Up and at em
On a day like many yesterday's
I made my usual run
To our local Rite Aide to pick up
The necessities of life ...
Toilet paper, dog food,
Cat food, milk and etc.
Ladies, you know the drill!
All the exciting things that
Makes our lives worth living LOL
As I walked up to the door
My mind was only on getting home
To keep from being seen in my
'Run to the store quick' attire
For any longer than need be
"Let me help you with that Ma'am"
There he was ...
Dark blue eyes ... Raven hair
White cowboy hat, and a
Dimpled smile that was staggering
Standing tall and lean
He reached to open the door for me
Surprised at my reaction
I blushed a little and replied
"Thanks Kind Sir"
I went about my business of
Picking up what I needed
As I strolled around the store
With my giddy-up cart
That of course would not
Run straight if my life
Depended upon it
My mind wandered back
To not that many years ago
In my younger days
This Aspiring Angel
Could kick up her heals
With the best of ya
The Two Step, Elvira,
And Country Swing
Were no strangers to me
Of course I was then
A size three and not a
Tight fitting five and I had
Not been hooked on the nasty habit
Of smoking for that long so I
Could make the dance floor without
Falling on my face from lack
Of oxygen
I worked in a Photography Studio
For the majority of my working life
The young photographer I worked with
When things got too slow to be bearable
Would pull all of the seating
To the inside walls of the studio ...
Turn on the radio
And this gal leaned all
Of the latest Country steps
Of course what good were they
If you couldn't show them off
Many a night after work
My husband would meet us at
The local country hang out
And this young man and I would
Strut our stuff
Hersh is handicapped so
He could not dance but enjoyed
Watching his wife of so many years even then
Prancing around the dance floor with
Our young friend that was more family than friend
Sooooo much fun!!
Not a gray hair to be seen in those days
And I could still turn a man's head
When I walked into a room
Now . . ?
Well I notice a lot of heads turning
But they are looking at the little cutesie
Just ahead of me in her heals and Daisy Dukes
Oh well, I was young once too LOL
The closest I have come to dancing in years
Is with my trusty cart with the wheels
That are worn and wobble
Doesn't resemble a Two Step much
I even had all of the attire ...
Boots, hat, jeans, shirts,
And enough wind to make it
Around the dance floor
And today?
Here I was in a drug store
Picking up makeup and fancy's
For a night out on the town?
Sure thing ... Right ... NOT!!
In my cart was all the makings
Of another routine night at home
I shook off the doldrums
And took my purchases
And myself to the front of the store
My mind back on reality
There he was again!
This young man
Was causing quite a stir.
"Hey you, why didn't you stop by
and talk to me today?"
"Well Sweetheart, I thought you
just might be too busy to gab today"
"Ahhh honey, you know I am never
too busy to talk to you"
This somewhat older checker-outer
Was falling all over herself
(Snicker)
I looked around at the other
Women in the joint and all eyes
Were placed on this magnetic young man
I paid for my wonderful finds
And started to leave
Just before the door sat a lady
MUCH older than myself behind a
card table selling raffle tickets
That's was us old gals seem to do
But I haven't tried it yet
I stopped by to ask her
"Hey, who is the cowboy?"
She proceeded to tell me
Everything about him short of his
Social Security number
And phone number . . .
Darn! No phone number LOL
As I turned to walk out
I heard a chuckle from her with
A slightly low whisper
"I guess I am not dead after all"
"How about you?"
I proceeded to the door to be met again
With the flashing smile and a tip of the hat
"Have a great day Ma'am!"
Just one more quick look! What can it hurt?
Ya know
There's just something
About those Cowboys!! LOL
