Open Your Eyes
Life on the Fast Track
More Poetry >>
In this world of pain and woe,
We have a place where we can go.
Into ourselves we see peace and dreams,
But everyone wants you elsewhere it seems.
Friends will always have advice what to do,
Acquaintances will also tell you without even a clue.
They all think that they know you best,
Until you become even more stressed.
Listen instead to that still small voice,
The one that says you do have a choice.
You look inward to your experiences in life,
To find the road not paved with strife.
When you learn to depend on yourself,
You will be able to put your fears on a shelf.
Life will not always show you its best face,
And being down and out is never a disgrace.
We all have our hard knocks to endure,
But they should teach us to be even more sure.
Depending on ourselves to be our own best friend,
For who better to see us and comprehend?
Getting advice from another who cares,
Is great but you are the one that bears.
The consequences of the decisions you make,
And take the blame for any mistake.
Life can be so filled with joy,
Even the days that seem to annoy.
The alternative is never a good choice,
So listen instead to that still small voice.
