Poetry For Everyday People

The Growing-Up Revolution

All I can do
is watch the fireworks,

young and romantic,

the moon watching
it's back, lil' rocket,
flies up in the air,
flapping wings
fit for eating,
but lil' rocket
feels big, most lil'
rockets feel big,

stubbornness, underneath
stubbornness, backed by
stubbornness,
mommas lil' rocket,
peanut butter
and jelly,
sneaking 'round
as if inventing,

I watch close,

I guard, of course,
lead by example,
I know what's out there,
I got your back
lil' rocket,

sometimes you can't change
the path, but you can,
alter the ending,

when the door
is closed
all you can do
is plant
flowers outside,

wait for the picnic,

paint the hug
give the love
and wait.
