A horrible rumor was often heard
Flowing through the small Town's grape vine
As all rumors are carried upon the wind
By the wagging tongues of those unkind
A dreadful deed was whispered around
No-one knew by whom or at what time
The true cause also was not discerned
But folks suspected it was a crime
A mother's silence was broken by the strain
Of hiding the truth for many long years
Until her heart seemed to explode
And at last she voiced her aweful fears
The policemen searched along the edge
By the flowing river's murky shore
They searched in the early morning's light
A skeleton was buried which they could not ignore
Four years ago the dreadful act was committed
Against a one year old child who's life was robbed
His father smacked the child's head with such a force
The child fell dead while his Mother sobbed
