Poetry For Everyday People

Criminal

Slick, is complicated,
requires attention
to detail, no cutting
corners, no laziness,
it takes much effort,
lies, perfecting the lies,
repeating the lies, living
the lies,

then you have to constantly
sneak around, hide things,
you have to do much homework,
you gotta study up on your
crime of choice, learn the
ins and outs, spend a life
time wasting a life,

I've seen too many, the
devil on their backs, unable
to reach right, unwilling
to listen, to the one's
that care, no heart,
no pride,

just a straight line down
a one way road, where
a cell, or death, await,
patiently, as they make
their moves, on their way

to the place of
no return,

where dignity
is stripped,
where mirrors
become horror,
where time
stands still.

I tend to favor
freedom,
respect,
honor,
enjoying life,
with family, friends,
peanut butter and
jelly sandwiches,
cold beer, Santa Clause,

an honest living
ain't easy
but it's the only life
worth living.
