June's Rhymes

Where'd I Go?

Oranges and grapefruits, growing on trees.
Everywhere I look, there are palm leaves.
The ocean is calm, peaceful and abiding.
It's gentle and tame, while it's subsiding.
It comes to shore and steals some sand.
Taking back with it, a piece of the land.
Sometimes it rages, and it rises high.
Giving playful surfers, quiet the ride.
A seagull watches, but he's not watching me.
It's the fish on the sand, cast out by the sea.
He grabs his dinner, and away he does fly
High like an eagle, into the blue sky.
Where'd I go, to be at ease and content?
Beautiful Florida, that's where I went.
