 Tears of Manhood

Tears of Manhood
On a cold dark night, a grown man walks
Tears roll down his face; to himself he talks,
In the middle of a field, no one else is around
The weight of manhood finally breaks him down
He as faced gang violence, school bullies, street thugs
Stood up against crime, alcohol, and drugs
Seen things as a child, that no child should see
Yet as strong and as independent as a young man could be
But now on his knees, in a puddle of tears
He finds himself a new set of fears
Far greater than any childhood ghetto drama
He returns to adolescence, he cries for Momma
Listen as he speaks, aloud and alone
“Momma “ he says “ I feel so far from grown
This is not at all how I thought it would be
I'm in need; I'm in trouble, please talk to me
I am no father; I'm barely a man
How did I get here, I don't understand
Why would God give children to me?
Without an example of what a father should be
How can I make it, how can I succeed
Unless I provide them everything they need
I don't know the first thing to do
If this was Gods plan, why did he take you?
The closest thing to a father I ever had
Yet you could'nt teach me how to be a dad
I don't want to fail, and I can't walk away
Promise me mamma, there will be a brighter day”
When he heard no reply, he slept awhile
He could feel her hug as he dreamed of her smile
