The preacher man, dusty and unkempt,
Travelled the outback with camel and tent,
Stopping by remote towns and distant farms,
Preaching the gospel and reading the Psalms.
While baptising new converts in a muddy billabong,
The local drunk wandered up singing a crude song.
The drunk stopped, sat and looked a while,
Seems he was warmed by the preacher's broad smile.
‘Hey Blue', he yelled, ‘why don't you come here?'
‘Tell me Blue, have you found God this year?'
‘Naa' the drunk replied. ‘You wouldn't know where to look,'
The preacher continued, thumping his big black book.
‘Come and be baptised, and change your ill ways',
So the drunk rolled forward, his mind in a haze.
The preacher dunked him, he was muddy and wet,
Then asked again ‘Blue, have you found God yet?'
‘Naa' the drunk replied in spluttering tones,
So he was dunked again, this time shaking his bones.
Back up he was dragged, second time around,
‘Have you found God yet?' was the booming sound.
‘Naa' the drunk replied , his words half choked,
Under he went again before another word be spoke.
The preacher held him down under rather long,
Hoping he would repent from doing much wrong.
‘Have you found God yet, me old mate Blue?'
‘Naa' the drunk gasped, and everyone knew it was true,
‘ Are ya sure this is where your God was lost?'
‘All I found was this', and an old billy he tossed.
Fact is God has never been lost down here,
In fact, God has never been lost ever, anywhere,
Its us who have wandered and gone astray,
If you're still lost, turn back to God today.
