"Moonlight Prayer"
"Moonlight Prayer"
Jaci sat quietly, while the moon shined bright
Concentrating . . .On thought after thought
Sleep had not come, it was a long restless night
She cried to Great Spirit, for answers she sought
A "Trader" visited her village, every seven suns
And his eyes brightened, when spotting Jaci
All the while trading furs, and horses for guns
Bickering and bantering, until all would agree
Now, Jaci pondered on many troubling things
Under that moon, for which she was named
She imagined eagles, spreading great wings
While her confusion inside, became tamed
For eagles are a sign of bravery and strength
And that is what she needed this night. . .
To know for sure, shed go to any length
Making sure that she did, what was right
Her thoughts rested on the white trader man
Apprehensive, her heart, was heavily laden
Happy and then sad . . . Her emotions, ran
At the thought of becoming, his "Maiden"
She knew the day might come, very soon
When he would approach the Indian Chief
Praying to Great Spirit, under the moon
Jaci waited for a sign, a feeling of relief
"Great Spirit" she said, "let me understand
Not my desire, but. . . Only your will"
"If it is meant for the Trader, to take my hand
Then its your wish, that I want to fulfill . . . "
Quietly, the maiden looked up toward the skies
Feeling such peace from Great Spirit, above
Overwhelming tears rolled from her eyes
Experiencing His awesome presence . . And love.
